Lexus has unveiled its new electric SUV model, the RZ. The company has improved the short driving range and equipped it with steer-by-wire technology for next-generation steering feel. The exterior design of the Lexus RZ doesn't differ significantly from previous models.
However, the wheel design has been changed, and the body color and accents have been updated. The HUD UI has been improved, and vehicles equipped with steer-by-wire technology will feature a yoke steering wheel.
While the exterior design hasn't changed significantly, the powertrain has been redesigned to a full-change level. The battery capacity is 79.96 kWh, and the charging method uses the CCS2 standard common in Europe. There are three lineup options available.
The top-tier trim, the RZ 550e F Sport, boasts a maximum output of 407 horsepower. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and has a driving range of 280 miles (450 km) on a single charge.
The RZ 500e has a maximum output of 380 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, and has a driving range of 357 miles (575 km) on a single charge. It features the next-generation steering technology, steer-by-wire system, which allows steering through electronic signals.
This technology allows drivers to enjoy smoother and more intuitive driving control. The steering range can be expanded up to 200 degrees, enabling drivers to experience the Lexus Driving Signature.
Additionally, Lexus has introduced an interactive manual drive feature that allows virtual shifting up to 8 gears. This function is similar to Hyundai's virtual transmission system. The new RZ is expected to be gradually released in various markets starting from fall 2025. The sales price has not yet been disclosed.
