BMW X4 (code name: G02). When driving over speed bumps or on rough surfaces, you hear a creaking sound from the front.
Some drivers dismiss this noise as just a sign of aging, while others find it bothersome and worry about safety, prompting them to seek repairs.
This particular owner is sensitive to such issues, falling into the latter category.
They came in for maintenance.
I also drive the same model, a BMW X4 (with about a two-year difference in age), so I am somewhat familiar with this symptom.
What’s the problem?! The lower parts of BMW vehicles are generally good compared to other brands, but the G-body models have weaker bushings and ball joints.
You can especially feel the vibrations when you press the brakes hard while driving, and in underground parking, you hear a knocking sound when turning the steering wheel.
Since the BMW X4 exhibits these noises, the X3 likely has similar issues. Owners should take note.
I performed maintenance on the BMW X4 to address the creaking noise from the lower body.

I had already conducted an inspection, so I proceeded directly to the removal process.
And now, I will show you the results.
The condition of the tension strut bushings was poor, with significant cracks and the internal vibration-dampening oil already leaking out.
When I can hold it with my hand like this, it must be much worse when the car is in motion!
Hearing that creaking noise...
You can hear it creaking and knocking!
It’s weak, very weak...
I might have to do this repair on my own car soon too.
While working, I broke a tool.
Working on the lower body is tough... If it breaks this easily, haha.
Alright! We need to replace it with a new part?!
Let me show you the parts first.
We use parts from a brand called Ramfoder, which are often used in genuine replacements.
We prefer to install this product.
Although it’s expensive, ensuring quality means that selecting and preparing the right parts is part of the process.
Honestly, I thought we would be out of stock on this, but I was surprised to find it available.
Now, I will install it.
I have done countless lower body repairs on BMW vehicles, so I am experienced.
I will ensure proper torque values and tolerances for the bolts and nuts.
I have shown the results.
I paid attention to the finishing touches of the work.
Now, I will take it for a test drive.
Indeed, spending money on a car makes a difference—this moment reminds me of that.
I think I need to do this too... haha.
If you have driven over 100,000 kilometers (about 62,137 miles) in your BMW X4, you might notice some discomfort in the ride quality and unusual noises from the lower body. It wouldn’t hurt to schedule maintenance at the right time.
Oh, and let me share a tip to reduce these issues! If you could please take speed bumps slowly, I asked the owner before delivery and they promised to be more cautious in the future.
This was a maintenance session for the BMW X4, focusing on the lower arm tension strut stabilizer link.
That wraps up today’s post!
Thanks for reading!
