Starting today, Kia has opened contracts for the Tasman, and they have also revealed the much-anticipated pricing. The Tasman is expected to make a successful debut in the domestic premium pickup truck market with a more competitive price than anticipated.
The base trim, Dynamic, starts at 37.5 million won (approximately $28,000), while the Adventure trim is priced at 41.1 million won ($30,000) and the Extreme trim at 44.9 million won ($32,500). The off-road specialized model, X-Pro, is priced at 52.4 million won ($39,000).
According to Kia's detailed specifications, the Tasman features a gasoline 2.5 turbo engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering a maximum output of 281 horsepower and a peak torque of 43.0 kg·m. The combined fuel efficiency stands at about 8.6 km/L (approximately 20.3 mpg). This performance is among the best for pickup trucks priced between 30 to 40 million won, optimizing ride comfort, shifting feel, and fuel efficiency.
The Tasman boasts a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg and features a tow mode that adjusts the shifting pattern based on the towing weight. It also includes an air intake located at the top of the side fender rather than the front, allowing it to traverse through water up to 800 mm deep.
I personally have high expectations for the X-Pro model. Designed specifically for off-road driving, it features a ground clearance that is 28 mm higher than the standard four-wheel-drive model and comes equipped with all-terrain tires to ensure stable driving on rough terrain.
The 4WD system in the Kia Tasman includes an "Auto Terrain Mode" that automatically selects the appropriate driving mode based on artificial intelligence assessments of various terrain conditions, such as sand, mud, and snow. It also features an electronic locking differential (e-LD), a low-speed maintenance device called X-TREK, and a terrain mode specifically for rocky landscapes. The infotainment screen provides a ground view monitor that displays the overall underbody surface of the vehicle.
Inside, the Tasman offers various features, including an off-road page that displays information such as engine and transmission oil temperatures through the cluster and infotainment monitor. The X-Pro model also comes with exclusive specifications.
Additionally, the Tasman features a panoramic wide display based on ccNC, a Harman Kardon audio system, a folding console table, and a dual-type wireless charging system. It also introduces the first sliding reclining seats in the second row for the class, providing top-level space efficiency.
The Tasman also features wide-opening hinges that allow the second-row doors to open up to 80 degrees, and a 29-liter large tray under the second-row seats enhances storage convenience.
In terms of driving convenience, the Tasman includes various advanced driver assistance systems, such as smart cruise control based on steering wheel grip detection, navigation-based HDA for semi-autonomous driving, rear parking collision prevention assist, and a forward monitoring camera for the driver.
The news of the Kia Tasman’s contract opening, which boasts a unique exterior design, outstanding product value, and competitive pricing, concludes here. We will provide further updates through official event sketches in the future.
