The luxurious black color and a variety of convenient options enhance the appeal of the Genesis G80 Black, which, along with the 2025 model, officially goes on sale today. You can think of it as carrying over the sophistication showcased in the previous G90 and GV80 Black Edition models.
Although the exterior design remains unchanged, the radiator grille, chrome molding, and wheels all sport a black finish, which emphasizes the unique character line of the Genesis G80 while adding a sporty flair.
Personally, I wish it had come out in a long-body version with a longer wheelbase like the electric model, but I view the use of black bezels on the LED headlamps and the overall blacked-out theme positively, as it gives the impression of a facelift.
The most satisfying aspect is that the chrome molding on the G80 trunk lid blends into the body color, making it less visible. This detail was not present in higher models like the GV80 or G90. While some may find such chrome accents luxurious, I have always found them distracting.
This is the part! It almost looks like it’s wearing a crown... In any case, the G80 Black Edition features this area finished in black chrome, giving the rear a bolder appearance.
Genesis announced that the exterior color options for the G80 Black include the front bumper grille, radiator grille, front emblem, DLO molding, rear bumper molding, headlamp internal side bezels, and ADAS radar cover patterns.
The 20-inch wheels also come in a glossy black finish, featuring floating wheel caps as standard. The trunk lid showcases a dark gray Genesis lettering emblem at its center.
The interior features a black-exclusive trim, with all switches and decorations on the doors and console, steering wheel, paddle shifters, door sills, speaker grills, and logos finished in black.
The dark black real wood trim and quilted leather seats add a touch of luxury. Additionally, the 2025 model features a head-up display option as standard, and the vehicle now activates the side mirrors and puddle lamps when the driver remotely starts the engine and approaches the car.
The 27-inch integrated wide display now features black-exclusive welcome and goodbye animations, 3D model images, and graphic themes. While the basic black interior and seat color may seem plain, the G80 edition presents a completely different vibe despite being the same color.
Finally, regarding pricing, Genesis will temporarily reduce the individual consumption tax from 5% to 3.5% for customers purchasing the G80 in the first half of 2025. Moreover, if the vehicle is delivered by June of this year, customers can receive tax benefits like education tax and VAT. This will lead to a difference in the final price.
Based on the aforementioned 3.5% tax rate, the price of the G80 Black is approximately 81.49 million KRW (about $61,000) for the 2.5 gasoline turbo model and 85.73 million KRW (about $64,000) for the 3.5 gasoline turbo model. Given that most additional options are included, it appears to offer significant value compared to the previous full-option pricing. The 2025 G80 starts from about 58.99 million KRW (around $44,000) to 71.01 million KRW (around $53,000) for the 2WD model.
In conclusion, Genesis seems to have equipped the Black Edition series with a full range of luxury options. That’s all for now; stay tuned for a detailed review in an upcoming test drive.
