Today, I’m introducing the Ping DS72 putter. I used last year's model, the PLD (Putting Lab Design) DS72, and this year, the Scottsdale version has been released, expanding my options.
The Ping DS72 model features a compact mid-mallet design, rather than the typical mallet putter. It gained fame thanks to Viktor Hovland, who has performed well on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour (European Tour) and contributed to its design.
When I actually used it on the green, I found that it felt sharp, similar to using a blade putter, allowing for excellent distance control. Additionally, it offered great straight-line performance during shorter putts, making it a comfortable putter to use.
Golf is often about the right equipment, isn’t it? Thanks to this putter, I achieved several birdies during my recent round and even set my best record of the year.
In fact, the Ping brand began with putters. While their forgiving drivers are popular, Ping's unique putter technology, which helped set the standard for blade putters, has been developed over many years, leading to a strong preference for Ping putters among tour players.
Let me share my experience with the PLD putter, which draws inspiration from the tour and features a premium lineup made from CNC-milled 303 stainless steel. This model suits golfers with a solid putting stroke, particularly those who are single-digit handicappers or better.
The PLD DS72 boasts a stunning black coating, a soft ball touch, and a precisely milled face pattern for rolling, allowing for versatile ball control.
In contrast, the newly released Scottsdale version focuses on softer feel and stable distance control through a lightweight PEBAX insert and optimal weight distribution.
We all experience those tense moments when we accidentally hit a putt too hard, losing distance control and sending the ball too far. The Scottsdale helps cover for those mishits.
This concludes my review. For more detailed information, please visit the Ping Golf website.
