Hyundai recently launched the all-new Palisade, a large SUV with an internal combustion engine.
When it first debuted, the Palisade was praised as a great value vehicle priced below 50 million won (approximately $37,500 USD).
However, since only the 3.8 gasoline and 2.2 diesel models were available, consumers seeking low maintenance costs and quiet rides found it lacking.
The 3.8 gasoline engine offers a smooth six-cylinder performance, but the annual car tax can approach 1 million won (about $750 USD), making it a burden for many.
This often leads consumers to choose the diesel model, even though the unique vibrations and noise of diesel engines can be drawbacks in terms of driving comfort.
This might explain why Hyundai introduced the new Palisade with a 2.5 gasoline turbo and a 2.5 gasoline turbo hybrid, while phasing out the 2.2 diesel model. The 2.5 gasoline turbo engine, which also powers the Santa Fe and Sorento, delivers 281 horsepower and 43 torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting.
Conversely, the Palisade hybrid shares the same 2,500cc displacement as the standard gasoline model but adds a hybrid system, boosting its output to 334 horsepower and 36 torque.
Unfortunately, like the existing Santa Fe and Sorento hybrids, it uses a 6-speed automatic transmission.
So, what about the Ioniq 9?
The Ioniq 9 is an electric SUV model that is similar in size to the Palisade.
The Ioniq lineup, including the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, boasts a futuristic image, giving off a strong impression akin to that of a cyborg.
However, many consumers still feel hesitant about electric vehicles.
While electric vehicles may offer lower maintenance costs, the need to monitor charging during long trips cannot be ignored. In contrast, the Palisade hybrid improves fuel efficiency compared to the gasoline model, providing an advantage in maintenance costs.
But given the higher initial purchase cost of electric vehicles and the lack of preference for them in the used car market, depreciation issues can arise.
Therefore, many consumers seem to turn back to the Palisade hybrid, which uses an internal combustion engine.
When directly comparing the Palisade and Ioniq 9, you may not notice significant differences in options.
Both vehicles are new models featuring various cutting-edge technologies. Therefore, it would be wise to carefully consider the comparison between electric and internal combustion engine vehicles.
