Kia has unveiled the exterior design of the Kia PV5, a Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) model that allows consumers to modify the space according to their needs. While much of the design has already been revealed, showing no significant changes, we know that many commercial vehicle owners are eagerly anticipating this car.
Kia introduced the PV5 concept at CES 2024 last January, aiming to provide an efficient in-vehicle experience through innovative space utilization with customized design. Kia plans to unveil the PV5 at the 2025 Kia EV Day later this month. The PV5 is the first model in the PBV line that presents a new concept of space.
Kia plans to operate the PV5 as follows: a Passenger model considering various usabilities, a Cargo model optimized for business, and a Conversion model responding to customers' specific needs. Kia has now revealed two PBV designs: the mid-sized PV5 Passenger and Cargo models.
The exterior design of the PV5 is based on a futuristic and robust image. Its key feature is the ability to flexibly respond to customer needs by applying various body types. The different types of PV5 share an exterior that gives an impression of solidity, boldness, and versatility, based on a simple and intuitive design.
The front of the Kia PV5 is based on Kia's "Opposites United" design philosophy, adopting a design that contrasts a simple upper part with a robust lower part. The Star Map signature lighting, which extends from the A-pillar, and the headlamps set in the black-finished body give a clean impression.
The exterior color wraps around the entire vehicle, adding a continuous feel to the lower part. The lower bumper, which can be partially replaced, adds practicality and robustness. The side emphasizes a strong impression with black wheel arch cladding and side rocker design. Meanwhile, the Kia PV Passenger features large glass windows with a low beltline on the side. The D-pillar, which extends from the side to the rear, is smoothly finished to naturally connect the side and rear.
The rear of the Kia PV5 Passenger gives a wide and spacious feeling created by simple surfaces. Like the front, it features a replaceable lower bumper, adding practicality and robustness.
The Kia PV Cargo differentiates itself from existing business-specific vehicles with a design optimized for efficient space utilization. The rear features a double-door tailgate composed of clean surfaces, making it appear visually wider. It has the advantage of easy loading and unloading of cargo even in narrow spaces. Kia is expected to unveil the PV5 at the EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain, later this month, where they will announce specific PBV business strategies.
