Lucid Motors recently unveiled rendering images of the GT3, a high-performance electric vehicle model designed to compete with the Tesla Roadster. The GT3 version of the Lucid Air emphasizes a sporty design. Industry insiders predict that it will rival the Tesla Roadster, though the current images are still at the rendering stage.
The Tesla Roadster has faced continuous delays since its anticipated launch in 2017. As a result, interest in high-performance electric vehicles has shifted toward the Lucid Motors Air GT3. The Roadster is now scheduled for release in 2023.
However, there are concerns that the 2023 schedule for the Roadster may be unrealistic. This situation allows Lucid Motors more time to prepare the GT3, which is expected to launch with distinct features that set it apart from the Roadster.
Lucid Motors reported that it received 13,000 pre-orders in the third quarter of 2021 alone. This brings the total pre-orders to over 17,000, raising expectations for the Lucid Air's market performance. The pre-orders in the third quarter of 2021 amounted to $1.3 billion, with cash assets reaching $4.9 billion.
Lucid Motors has set a production target of 20,000 units for 2022. The company focuses on the sedan electric vehicle market and is currently accepting orders for the Lucid Air Pure, which starts at $74,400. Sales have also commenced for the Lucid Air Grand Touring, starting at $139,000.

In the next 3 to 4 years, Lucid expects to release an electric vehicle priced at $25,000 (approximately 30 million KRW) with improved battery pack efficiency. The recently launched Lucid Air Dream can travel 520 miles (approximately 837 km) on a single charge. However, due to its high price, the target customer base is limited. Lucid has lowered the price point with the more affordable Lucid Air Pure.
By reducing the size of the battery pack and cutting costs, Lucid aims to make the $25,000 electric vehicle a reality, although they expect this will take 3 to 4 years. They also stated that this vehicle will not be sold under the Lucid brand but will be launched through a separate cost-effective brand.
Last month, the Lucid Air won the 2022 MotorTrend Car of the Year award. This marks the first time a new manufacturer has achieved such recognition with its first model. The judges seemed particularly impressed by the vehicle's long-range capability, which allows it to travel 520 miles (approximately 837 km) on a single charge. MotorTrend described the Lucid Air as the new benchmark for electric vehicles.
