LA Auto Show
Excerpt from InsideEVs
Hyundai unveiled the Seven, an electric SUV concept, at the LA Auto Show. This concept car represents the third lineup of the Ioniq series, following the CUV Ioniq 5 and the sedan Ioniq 6. The design showcases the completion of the SUEV design based on the dedicated E-GMP platform. It emphasizes eco-friendly materials and offers enhanced interior space.
Design
Hyundai emphasized the term SUEV in the Seven, which stands for sport utility electric vehicle. This concept combines the SUV idea with electrification. The aerodynamic design retains the ruggedness typical of SUVs, while the interior space promotes a family-oriented atmosphere.
The dedicated electric vehicle platform features a low hood that seamlessly curves from the front to the roof, creating an impressive wheelbase. The design emphasizes simplicity, showcasing headlamps and rear lamps that reflect the Ioniq identity with parametric pixel designs.
The 23-inch wheels incorporate active air flaps that adjust according to driving conditions, helping to control airflow and extend driving range. The exterior features a green-toned Ionosphere finish.
Interior
The interior enhances livability, which is increasingly important in the era of autonomous driving. The driver’s side features a single door, while the passenger side employs an asymmetrical coach door design without a pillar. This design evokes a lounge-like atmosphere reminiscent of Audi concepts. The Kia EV9 also maximizes openness with a pillar-less door design. The wheelbase reaches 3.2 meters, creating a spacious flat floor, and the roofline appears streamlined.
The driver’s seat features a retractable control stick that rises when needed, enhancing space utilization with a slim cockpit design. This resembles Volkswagen concepts. Two swivel lounge chairs can rotate 180 degrees and move back and forth, complemented by a lounge bench seat. The seating arrangement can be adjusted freely in driving and autonomous modes, while a mobile console universal island with a 27-inch display adds a touch of sophistication.
The vehicle’s roof features a 77-inch Vision Roof multi-screen, allowing passengers to enjoy various content. This setup means that even in rainy conditions, the screen can simulate bright sunlight for children in the backseat.
Care
As previously mentioned, the Hyundai Seven concept highlights interior care. It features a hygiene air circulation system and a UVC sterilization mode. The interior surfaces use mineral-based finishes without chemical additives. Additionally, the seats and carpets incorporate bamboo materials with antimicrobial properties.
The hygiene air circulation system draws inspiration from aircraft air circulation methods, isolating air in each row. The UVC sterilization mode activates after the passengers exit, causing the control stick to rise and the storage space to open. UVC ultraviolet lights located under the seats and in the vehicle doors eliminate bacteria and viruses.
Performance
The Hyundai Ioniq 7 concept, known as the Seven, incorporates a rapid charging system. It offers a 350 kW ultra-fast charging option, allowing the battery capacity to charge from 10% to 80% within 20 minutes. The vehicle aims for a driving range of over 300 miles on a single charge. It also features V2L technology for external power supply, although V2G technology is not yet available. However, V2L alone can provide power to various external environments.
Hyundai also offers additional videos about the Hyundai Seven, providing a storytelling format for customer experiences. The company will showcase the Ioniq 5, Santa Fe HEV, PHEV, Kona/Elantra N, Palisade, and Santa Cruz at the LA Auto Show until the 28th.
