The domestic hybrid market is undergoing significant changes. The mid-size SUV segment, previously dominated by the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe, now welcomes the Renault Grand Koleos and KG Mobility Torres hybrids. Additionally, the Hyundai Palisade hybrid has joined the large SUV category. Each of these new models offers unique features and advantages, broadening the options available to consumers with diverse needs.
The Hyundai Palisade hybrid is set to launch in the second quarter. This hybrid model boasts a system maximum output of 334 horsepower and offers a driving range of 621 miles on a single tank. It features a 1.65 kWh, 300V high-voltage lithium-ion battery and includes functions like V2L and stay mode. This allows drivers to experience EV-specific convenience technologies for the first time in a hybrid model.
Additionally, driving-specific technologies utilizing the drive motor, such as E-Ride, E-Handling, Electrically Evasive Handling Assist (E-EHA), and Electric Assisted Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control (e-DTVC), enhance ride comfort and driving performance. In terms of design, the new Palisade hybrid maintains a grand and luxurious image while incorporating distinctive features unique to hybrid models.
The interior will feature the latest infotainment systems and advanced driving assistance technologies. It is expected to maintain the spacious interior and convenience that large SUVs are known for.

Renault Korea's Grand Koleos hybrid has already received positive reviews in the market. Its standout feature is its exceptional quietness. The vehicle minimizes noise during the transition between the engine and electric motor, providing a serene cabin similar to that of an electric vehicle at low speeds. Even at high speeds, it offers a stable driving environment with minimal wind noise.
The Grand Koleos hybrid features a dual motor system composed of a 100 kW electric motor and a 60 kW high-voltage starter motor, paired with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline direct injection engine. This configuration delivers a maximum system output of 245 horsepower. It also boasts impressive fuel efficiency, achieving a certified combined fuel economy of 37 mpg (15.7 km/L) with 19-inch tires.
The spacious interior is another advantage of the Grand Koleos. With a length of 188.2 inches (4780 mm) and a wheelbase of 110.6 inches (2820 mm), it offers one of the largest interiors in its class. The second-row legroom measures 12.6 inches (320 mm), the longest in its segment, and the trunk provides a maximum capacity of 71.8 cubic feet (2034 L). It includes up to 31 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and implements Level 2 autonomous driving through active drive assist.
For the first time in South Korea, dedicated ADAS maps that reflect urban roads are provided via streaming. The price of the Grand Koleos hybrid, benefiting from a temporary reduction in the individual consumption tax until early 2025, is set at 37,609,000 KRW (approximately $28,000) for the E-Tech hybrid model in the Techno trim and 43,519,000 KRW (approximately $32,000) for the Esprit Alpine trim.
KG Mobility officially launched the Torres hybrid this month. The standout feature of the Torres hybrid is its dual-tech hybrid system, equipped with a parallel dual motor setup that excels in fuel efficiency and driving performance. Compared to the gasoline model, the Torres hybrid boasts a 41% improvement in combined fuel economy, achieving 37 mpg (15.7 km/L) based on 18-inch wheels. The model with 20-inch wheels also recorded a fuel economy of 35.6 mpg (15.2 km/L).
Another strength of the Torres hybrid lies in its battery. It features a class-leading 1.83 kWh battery that maximizes system efficiency through stable current supply. The vehicle utilizes a large 130 kW (177 horsepower) motor, enabling dynamic driving and incorporating a 12V LFP low-voltage battery for extended battery life.
The dedicated e-DHT transmission offers various driving modes, including EV mode, HEV mode, and engine drive mode. In urban driving, the Torres hybrid can operate in EV mode for up to 94% of the time. In terms of design, the Torres hybrid maintains a robust yet refined SUV style while effectively showcasing hybrid characteristics. The interior features a 12.3-inch digital cluster along with the next-generation infotainment platform Athena 2.0.
