Kia has maintained the top position in domestic cumulative sales by vehicle class, primarily driven by SUVs, through the third quarter of this year. The company plans to launch new models of the mid-size K5 sedan and compact K3 sedan, expecting to boost sales in the domestic sedan market as well.

The K5 facelift model builds upon the highly refined existing model, incorporating Kia's latest family look and promising improved details.

The front will feature a signature Star Map lighting daytime running light with a Z-shape and an added L-shaped light, along with a radiator grille with a honeycomb interior pattern. The connected taillamps have been redesigned with longer ends, and we can expect newly designed diffusers and garnishes.

The side profile features redesigned alloy wheels, differing from the current model. Inside, a curved display connecting the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen will be installed, along with a new steering wheel design. Advanced driver assistance systems and updated convenience features will enhance the vehicle's overall value.

The powertrain lineup is expected to remain the same as the current model, with improvements in engine efficiency. The K5 hybrid model may see an increase in electric driving range, possibly through the installation of a high-density battery.

The engine options include a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline, 2.0L gasoline, 2.0L K5 hybrid, and 2.0L LPi. With enhanced design and features, the K5 facelift model is expected to see a price increase. Predictions suggest a rise of 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 KRW (approximately $2,300 to $3,800 USD) across trim levels.

The current K5's price range is 24,180,000 to 33,080,000 KRW (approximately $18,500 to $25,300 USD). Even with the expected price increase, it should remain competitive against the Sonata The Edge, priced between 28,080,000 and 39,170,000 KRW (approximately $21,500 to $30,000 USD). These two models are anticipated to engage in fierce competition in the domestic market.

From January to September this year, Kia sold approximately 24,000 K5 units in the domestic market, a 6.2% increase compared to the same period last year. While the exact launch date for the new K5 hasn't been announced, it's expected to debut in Korea next month, followed by releases in European and U.S. markets.

There's also interest in whether this facelift will introduce all-wheel drive for the 2.5-liter turbo GT model.
