Kia unveiled the Ray single-seater van at the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show. The Kia booth displayed two Ray show cars: a compact Ray reflecting the car camping trend and a versatile single-seater Ray van. At that time, Kia enhanced the product appeal by adding features compared to the existing model, and it received positive reviews for its competitive pricing.

The Ray single-seater van is characterized by its strong concept of sharing rather than ownership and its ability to utilize a wide space despite being a compact car. It can be compared to the recently released Hyundai compact car Casper van and is considered very suitable for self-employed individuals.

The single-seater van maintains the same level of stability as the existing model. It becomes a single-seat compact car without a passenger seat, offering the best efficiency for transporting goods compared to the two-seater van. The full-flat model, which was also displayed, was specialized for camping and car camping, featuring flattened seats, camping chairs, tables, storage bags, Ray-exclusive multi-curtains, and air mattresses.

The single-seater Ray van was scheduled for release in the first half of this year, while the full-flat Ray was planned for the second half. Subsequently, on February 8th, the Ray single-seater van, which can be used as a multipurpose model, was released.

The Kia Ray single-seater van is said to be the first single-seat vehicle in Korea. Apart from special vehicles, the Ray is the first domestic model to receive single-seat certification. The Ray single-seater van represents Kia's direction towards Purpose-Built Vehicles (PBV), which means it can be used for various purposes with flexible space utilization. In the future, it is expected to become a new concept of mobility by incorporating electric vehicle and autonomous driving technologies.

The Ray single-seater van removed the passenger seat from the existing two-seater van model and created a separate storage space underneath. The maximum cargo capacity has been expanded to 1,628 liters (57.5 cubic feet), which is said to be the largest loading space among existing compact vans. They also applied additional space for storing the driver's personal belongings in the passenger footwell area.

This represents a 30% increase in cargo space compared to the Ray two-seater van, and the loading floor length of 1.913 meters (6.28 feet) is said to be comfortable enough for an adult to lie down. This means it can be used for camping or car camping. The maximum loading weight has been improved by 26%, from 315 kg (694 lbs) to 380 kg (838 lbs).

Additionally, the passenger seat and the lower partition behind it have been removed. When opening the right-side door, the effect of widening the empty space is achieved, making loading and unloading much easier.

The Ray single-seater van offers two trim levels: Prestige and Prestige Special. The Special trim provides convenience features such as a heated driver's seat and driver's seat height adjustment. Prices start at 13.05 million won (approximately $11,600 USD) for the Prestige and 13.45 million won (approximately $11,950 USD) for the Prestige Special. For Ray single-seater van customers, a multipurpose support program is also being operated to reduce the burden of purchase.
