Hyundai has finally unveiled the exterior design of the highly anticipated Casper. The micro SUV boasts a cute and charming appearance while maintaining an SUV-like feel. It resembles the Venue but with distinct differences. Many believe the price will determine whether it can revolutionize the domestic micro car market, but the price was not included in this reveal. Rumors suggest that Hyundai's marketing and sales departments have yet to reach an agreement.
The Hyundai Casper seems well-suited for younger generations seeking a unique design and promises to express various personalities based on different lifestyles. The term "Casper" refers to a skateboarding trick, but the commercial emphasizes that it's neither a skateboard nor a ghost.
The micro SUV Casper measures 141.5 inches [3595mm] in length with a wheelbase of 94.5 inches [2,400mm]. Its width is 62.8 inches [1,595mm], and its height is 62 inches [1,575mm]. The base model comes with a 1.0 MPI engine, while the Active model features a 1.0 T GDI engine. The engine displacement is less than 1000cc.
The exterior of the AX1 model embodies the entry-level SUV spirit, appearing small, sturdy, and cute while exuding a strong, youthful, and dynamic vibe. The front features signal lamps and circular LED daytime running lights at the bottom, which serve as a focal point. The parametric grille emphasizes individuality with a wide skid plate.
The side profile showcases dynamic volume with high-mounted fenders and ground clearance. The bridge-type roof rack appears to be well-integrated as a design element. Hyundai has applied hidden-type rear door handles and placed a Casper-specific emblem above them. The rear features a wide tailgate, which should prove convenient for loading cargo.
The Active model, equipped with a turbo engine, adds a sportier feel. It features an intercooler intake on the front, reminiscent of the past Galloper model. The grille also sports a more athletic design. Surprisingly, Hyundai announced that the Casper will be sold online through D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) sales, marking the company's first venture into online vehicle sales. Early bird reservation notifications will be available from September 1st to 12th, with early bird reservations starting in mid-September. Launch and delivery dates are yet to be determined.
Hyundai has launched a dedicated Casper webpage, which is currently hosting an early bird reservation notification event. Registrants will receive ongoing updates about Casper purchase information. Participants in the reservation notification event can win prizes such as super early bird tickets, Starbucks gift cards, and Casper car-sharing test drive vouchers.
Some industry observers note that the Casper may overlap with the Venue in terms of market positioning. The Venue, a subcompact SUV, is priced between 14,900 USD and 20,400 USD. While the Casper looks similar to the Venue externally, it's expected to serve as an entry-level SUV in terms of pricing. Estimates suggest a price range of 10,400 USD to 13,000 USD, positioning it between the Morning and Ray models. There are even rumors of an 6,900 USD price point, which would likely make it a massive hit if true.
