Toyota has released teaser images of the new sixth-generation RAV4 ahead of its official unveiling. The official debut is set for May 21. The recently revealed teaser images showcase the exterior and interior designs first in the U.S. and European markets.
The new RAV4 is a complete redesign, but it appears to maintain the silhouette of the previous model while reflecting Toyota's latest design language. The front features daytime running lights in a hammerhead style and a honeycomb-patterned grille, similar to those seen on the Prius and the new Camry.
The side profile features a two-tone roof contrasted with black lower cladding, giving it a dynamic appearance. The rear showcases a horizontal full LED taillight and a silver diffuser that blend seamlessly.
Toyota has partially revealed the interior of the fully redesigned RAV4 through leaked images of the European specifications. The new independent digital instrument cluster and a large center display take center stage. It is expected to be closer to the Prius than the existing Camry, and the center console has also been redesigned. The interior ambiance aims for a simpler yet modern feel.
The new RAV4's powertrain is based on the existing TNGA-K platform, with improvements expected in crash safety and efficiency. While it is not a dedicated electric vehicle platform, the design considers future electrification expansions. The focus will be on a hybrid powertrain, likely utilizing the 2.1-liter gasoline engine and dual-motor hybrid system found in the latest Camry.
The front-wheel-drive model is expected to deliver a maximum output of 225 horsepower (168 kW), while the all-wheel-drive version will add a rear motor for a total output of 232 horsepower (173 kW). A plug-in hybrid model is also anticipated to be part of the lineup, and an electric vehicle version is under consideration. However, the release of a fully electric model may be delayed.
The 2026 Toyota RAV4 surpassed the Ford F-150 last year to become the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. It is poised to be a key model that will drive Toyota’s profitability and enhance its brand prestige. Major competitors, including the Honda CR-V TrailSport, Mazda CX-5 Hybrid, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Ford Escape, are continuously improving their offerings, prompting Toyota to aim for market leadership with the new RAV4.
The interior space of the new RAV4 is expected to remain similar to the existing model. High-end trims will retain features like a head-up display (HUD), panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and ambient lighting, while voice recognition capabilities for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa are expected to improve. The starting price for the hybrid version of the Toyota RAV4 is projected to be similar to that of the existing model.
