BMW plans to completely revamp the front-end design. The BMW Group announced that its new design language, Neue Klasse, will be applied across all models. The next-generation design trend will first debut on the fully redesigned electric iX3, set to be unveiled later this year.
Additionally, the BMW 5 Series sedan, which underwent a full redesign in 2023, is also preparing for a new design. It is expected to maintain the existing CLAR architecture while undergoing a facelift. Following this, new designs will be applied to the X5, 2 Series, X2, 7 Series, and X7 models.
BMW will unveil the fully redesigned electric SUV iX3 at the world's largest mobility exhibition, IAA 2025, taking place in Munich this September. The new iX3 will feature a dedicated electric vehicle platform, showcasing a design and performance distinct from the existing CLAR platform models.Recent spy shots released by foreign media show that the production model incorporates mass-produced headlights and taillights, reflecting the new design language. The front features a sleek, vertically-oriented kidney grille that leaves a strong impression, with design elements from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept integrated throughout.
The side view features alloy wheels and blue brake calipers, suggesting the possibility of a high-performance M model.
The powertrain will likely include four configurations: the standard rear-wheel drive 40, 40 xDrive, 50 xDrive, and M60 xDrive. It will apply sixth-generation battery technology and cylindrical cells, offering a maximum 800V system with a driving range of 600 km (approximately 373 miles) on a single charge according to European WLTP standards.
Meanwhile, BMW also released spy shots of the new 5 Series undergoing road testing. The shapes of the front and rear lamps have noticeably changed. The headlights appear sleeker and thinner, while the taillights extend down the center of the trunk.
The new 5 Series confirms its combustion engine model through the rear exhaust pipes, while the front wheels display BMW's characteristic PHEV color, indicating a high likelihood of being a plug-in hybrid model. Additionally, it appears not to feature the M Sport package, as it is equipped with 20-inch wheels.
The interior remains largely undisclosed, but considering the latest trends in BMW models, it is expected to feature a panoramic display-based iDrive system and a 3D heads-up display. There is also a possibility that the UI and UX first applied in the Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup will find their way into the combustion engine models.
This new 5 Series will undergo a facelift, but it is expected to be significant enough to be considered a full redesign. As a result, the development cycle is rather lengthy, with a public reveal set for fall 2026, primarily targeting the European market, and full-scale sales expected to commence in spring 2027.
