Kia has unveiled the detailed specifications and pricing for the Kia PV5, its first dedicated electric PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle), and will begin accepting orders on the 10th. The Kia PV5 is a mid-sized mobility solution developed on the PBV-exclusive electric platform E-GMP.S.
The PV5 electric vehicle aims to initiate customer-centric mobility innovations that can respond to various forms of mobility services, logistics, and recreational activities. Kia describes the PV5 as an innovative mobility platform that can adapt to customers' business and lifestyle needs, promising to enhance everyday experiences with greater value based on scalability and practicality.
Kia anticipates building a lineup that includes various conversion models, such as the PV5 passenger version and three types of cargo models with different specifications and loading capacities. The PV5 employs a flexible body system that modularizes key body components like the roof, doors, and tailgate, allowing for diverse seating arrangements.
Kia has prioritized the release of the five-passenger model and cargo model from the entire PV5 lineup. The passenger version offers spacious interiors, flexible seating arrangements, and enhanced convenience. The PV5 passenger model aims to satisfy various lifestyles, including mobility services, family trips, and picnics.
The PV5 provides generous interior space based on a 118.9-inch wheelbase, allowing for various seating configurations in the first, second, and third rows. The newly launched five-passenger model features reclining and fold & dive functions in the second-row seats, offering flexible usage based on needs. The trunk capacity starts at 47 cubic feet and can expand to a maximum of 81.8 cubic feet when the second-row seats are not in use.
For added convenience, the trunk features a large tray under the luggage board, which can store various items like outdoor V2L connectors and fire extinguishers. The vehicle incorporates practical storage spaces throughout, including the upper front trash pad, door trims, and under the first-row floor, enhancing space utilization.
The sliding doors ensure an opening width of 30.5 inches, allowing easy access for wheelchairs and large luggage, making entry and exit convenient.
The PV5 passenger model features an electric motor with a maximum output of 120 kW and torque of 184 lb-ft, paired with a 71.2 kWh battery, operating as a long-range single model. It offers energy efficiency of 4.5 km/kWh and a driving range of 222 miles on a single charge. Rapid charging with a 350 kW charger takes about 30 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%.
Meanwhile, the PV5 cargo model boasts a spacious cargo area, low loading height, and excellent space utilization, making it optimized for various business environments. It will be available in compact, long, and high-roof configurations based on loading capacity.
The PV5 cargo model features a maximum cargo space of 88.7 inches in length, 61.5 inches in width, and 59.8 inches in height, allowing for a total load capacity of up to 156.3 cubic feet. The trunk opening width reaches up to 52.9 inches, accommodating standard pallets measuring 43.3 inches by 43.3 inches without difficulty.
The loading height is reduced to approximately 16.5 inches, allowing for easy loading and unloading in one step. The dual-opening tailgate can be adjusted to open at 95 or 180 degrees and features LED lighting in the cargo area to enhance work efficiency and safety.
The PV5 cargo model comes in both a long-range variant equipped with a 71.2 kWh battery and a standard model with a 51.5 kWh battery. The driving range on a single charge reaches up to 234 miles for the long-range model and 174 miles for the standard model. The energy efficiency stands at 4.7 km/kWh for the long-range model and 4.8 km/kWh for the standard model.
The cargo long-range model features a 71.2 kWh battery, while the standard model has a 51.5 kWh battery. Both models can be rapidly charged from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes using a 350 kW charger.
Kia has set the pricing for the PV5 at approximately $35,000 for the basic passenger model and around $38,000 for the plus version before applying any electric vehicle tax benefits. The cargo model is expected to start in the mid-$15,000 range.
Considering federal and local subsidies and tax incentives, the passenger model may be available for around $25,000, while the cargo model could be priced in the mid-$15,000 range, depending on the region.
