Hello.
I'm Uniji, an automotive influencer at Yukapost.
KG Mobility (KGM) launched its urban electric pickup, the Musso EV, on the 5th, and within just two weeks, it has already secured over 3,200 contracts, generating significant buzz. The company attributes this success to the growing demand for affordable electric pickup models, which has exceeded expectations despite the ongoing electric vehicle market slump.
The Musso EV stands out for its blend of affordability and practicality. Designed as an urban electric pickup, it offers a spacious deck suitable for cargo and leisure activities, along with impressive driving range. In terms of design, the Musso EV boasts a sleek and unique style exclusive to electric pickups, featuring a sharp hood character line, full LED headlights, and dual projection-type lamps that enhance nighttime visibility. Additionally, practical towing hooks and a three-dimensional bumper add to its robust appearance.
Furthermore, the side and rear designs incorporate unique elements that prioritize practicality. Notably, the C-pillar garnish and LED rear combination lamps, shaped like tools, convey a distinctive aesthetic beyond functionality. The Musso EV also offers a range of options and exterior colors (▲Grand White ▲Blazing Gold ▲Amazonia Green ▲Ultra Marine ▲Marble Gray ▲Space Black), broadening consumer choices.
The interior design of the Musso EV presents a slim and wide concept, showcasing a sleek and modern aesthetic. A panoramic wide screen seamlessly connects the 12.3-inch digital cluster and 12.3-inch KGM Link navigation, providing a futuristic interface. The cluster features a next-generation infotainment platform, 'Athena 2.0,' with an integrated day and night GUI, allowing drivers to easily access various driving information.
The second-row space provides comfort and ample room, making it suitable for family use, exceeding the standards of a mid-sized SUV. It features ▲second-row sliding seats ▲32-degree reclining seats ▲60:40 split seating ▲generous headroom (39.4 inches) ▲a couple distance comparable to domestic SUVs (33.5 inches), ensuring a spacious and comfortable interior.
The deck can support a load of up to 1,102 lbs (500 kg), accommodating various equipment for leisure activities such as camping gear, surfboards, and bikes. To enhance the deck's usability, KGM has developed new features like a decktop, roll bar, and sliding cover. Customization packages, such as the style-up package (deck roll bar, roof flat carrier), clean deck package (sliding cover, deck divider), and outdoor package (roof crossbar, deck storage box), allow users to tailor the vehicle to their lifestyle.
KGM has also equipped the Musso EV with advanced convenience features, including ▲ClearSight ground view ▲wireless software updates (OTA) ▲Android Auto/Apple CarPlay ▲wireless phone charger as standard. Optional features include a sunroof, AWD with self-leveling, a 3D around-view monitoring system, utility roof rack, natural leather seat package, skid plates (front/rear), garnish upper molding, and Alpine audio system.
The Musso EV incorporates a durable and fire-resistant 80.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery, achieving a practical driving range of 248 miles (400 km) on a single charge and a combined efficiency of 4.2 km/kWh (2WD, 17-inch wheels). This performance results from the cell-to-pack method, maximizing energy density per unit area, and a battery pack design that withstands external shocks, enhancing durability and efficiency.
Furthermore, to ensure safer operation, the Musso EV features a next-generation multi-battery safety management system (BMS), which checks the battery status every 10 minutes while parked to prevent accidents. It also introduces real-time monitoring of temperature, voltage, and current during the charging process, automatically controlling charging if any abnormalities are detected, significantly enhancing safety.
The Musso EV showcases powerful performance with its 152.2 kW front-wheel drive motor and optimally tuned reducer, delivering a maximum output of 207 horsepower and peak torque of 25.4 lb-ft (34.6 kg.m). The AWD model boasts even more impressive specifications, with a peak output of 413 horsepower and maximum torque of 47.9 lb-ft (64.9 kg.m).
Meanwhile, competing models like Ford's F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet's Silverado EV emphasize high performance but come with steep price tags, creating a barrier to entry. In contrast, the Musso EV offers affordability without compromising on size and efficiency, positioning itself competitively in the market. It is also expected to face tough competition from Kia's traditional pickup truck, the Tasman.
Additionally, the online-exclusive Musso EV SE sold out in just 90 minutes, receiving an enthusiastic response from customers who prefer the AWD model's powerful performance. Capitalizing on this popularity, KG Mobility (KGM) plans to enhance its market dominance by expanding charging infrastructure and improving service quality. The Musso EV's sales prices are set at ▲MX 4,800,000 KRW (approximately $3,600 USD) ▲Black Edge 5,050,000 KRW (approximately $3,800 USD), and with additional subsidies for electric vehicles, the actual purchase price could drop to the mid-30,000,000 KRW range (approximately $27,000 USD). We appreciate your valuable feedback in the comments and wish you a joyful and happy day. This concludes the post.
