KGM (KG Mobility), which has rebranded from the well-known domestic pickup truck brand SsangYong, launched its integrated pickup brand 'MUSSO' in January. A few days ago, KGM unveiled the exterior images of the electric pickup MUSSO EV, and recently, a test vehicle for the MUSSO EV (O100) was spotted undergoing winter testing in Sweden. This indicates that the company is conducting thorough testing processes ahead of the new vehicle's release.
KGM has designed the exterior of the MUSSO EV based on its design philosophy 'Powered by Toughness'. The design embodies convenience and durability with the 'Handy & Tough' concept. It balances the ruggedness inherent to pickups with the smart image of electric vehicles, showcasing practical design elements as key features.
The images released highlight various customization options that emphasize practicality. Features include ▲ a decktop ▲ a roof flat carrier ▲ a skid plate ▲ a deck divider ▲ a roll bar ▲ and a sliding bed, all enhancing the deck's versatility for a more dynamic style. Furthermore, the side profile showcases a seamless silhouette where the deck (cargo space) and body integrate, achieving a robust pickup style. The thick roof design provides stability for heavy loads, while the voluminous fender lines and side garnishes add to its tough appeal.
Additionally, the C-pillar garnish visually separates the deck from the cabin, providing balance and showcasing a unique design that evokes the feel of a well-fitted tool. The bold, angular character line on the hood and the dynamic black grille add depth and dynamism, while the rear combination lamps and the large KGM emblem complete the bold and confident atmosphere. As the first electric pickup in Korea, the MUSSO EV combines the economic advantages of electric vehicles with the practicality of pickups, offering a wealth of customization options to cater to diverse lifestyles. Consequently, the market eagerly anticipates details regarding pricing and battery performance.
KGM has confirmed the eco-friendly vehicle subsidy for the MUSSO EV, announcing its sale price on the 18th. The MUSSO EV will be available in two trims: ▲ STD at approximately 36,000 USD (4,800,000 KRW) and ▲ DLX at approximately 38,000 USD (5,050,000 KRW). Classified as an electric commercial vehicle, it qualifies for a larger subsidy of approximately 4,900 USD (6,520,000 KRW) from the government and an estimated local subsidy of about 140 USD (186,000 KRW) from Seoul, leading to an expected actual purchase price in the high 30,000 USD range (39,620,000 KRW).
In regions with substantial subsidies, buyers can expect even greater benefits, such as 238 USD (316,000 KRW) in Incheon, 154 USD (204,000 KRW) in Busan, and 150 USD (192,000 KRW) in Daegu and Gwangju (based on the 2WD 17-inch model). Additionally, small business owners may enjoy further support and VAT refunds, potentially saving around 1,050 USD (1,410,000 KRW), which could lower the effective purchase price to around 25,000 USD (33,000,000 KRW). This pricing strategy has positioned the MUSSO EV as a competitive option in the market.
Thanks to the benefits for electric commercial vehicles, buyers can take advantage of various tax incentives, including exemptions from individual consumption tax and education tax, a 5% reduction in acquisition tax (up to 1,050 USD or 1,400,000 KRW), and an annual vehicle tax of around 21 USD (28,500 KRW). These factors contribute to the MUSSO EV's competitive pricing in the pickup market. With low operating costs, the total expenses for five years of driving are estimated at around 440 USD (580,000 KRW), saving about 1,050 USD (1,400,000 KRW) compared to gasoline pickup models.
The MUSSO EV features a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery with a capacity of 80.6 kWh and a 152.2 kW drive motor, designed to minimize fire risk while providing excellent durability. Despite the open cargo space structure that typically increases air resistance, it can achieve a driving range of 249 miles (401 km) on a single charge (based on 2WD). Key specifications include ▲ a utility roof rack ▲ 17-inch diamond-cut wheels ▲ an Alpine audio system ▲ and intelligent adaptive cruise control, with options for a ▲ sunroof ▲ AWD ▲ self-levelizer ▲ and a 3D around-view monitoring system.
A KGM representative stated, "The MUSSO EV boasts overwhelming price competitiveness compared to internal combustion engine pickups in terms of overall operational economy, including purchase and usage phases, due to its eco-friendly vehicle characteristics.
