Hello.

Kia has finally revealed the specifications and pricing for its ambitious new model, the Tasman, which marks the brand's first authentic pickup truck. Starting Thursday, the 13th, Kia will officially begin pre-orders, and the Tasman is expected to present a new paradigm in the domestic pickup market. The starting price for the Kia Tasman is 37,500,000 KRW (approximately $28,000 USD), drawing significant attention.
Kia unveiled the design of the Tasman at the 2024 Jeddah International Motor Show last October. With its innovative design and excellent product value, the Tasman aims to challenge both the domestic and global pickup markets. Kia categorized the Tasman’s trim levels as ▲Dynamic, ▲Adventure, and ▲Extreme, considering the robust and dynamic characteristics of pickups. Additionally, the company introduced the X-Pro model, specifically tailored for off-road driving, to broaden customer choices.
The Tasman's exterior boasts a bold design that reflects the practical values sought by pickup customers. Its front features a horizontally elongated grille and bumper design that convey a strong impression. However, some customers expressed disappointment with the front design.
Nevertheless, Kia incorporated a garnish on the hood and a grille trim to shape the brand's 'Tiger Face.' The vertical signature lamps on either side enhance the grand front image while showcasing Kia’s design elements. The side profile features geometrically harmonious elements with 45-degree angled corners, emphasizing a sturdy feel. The Tasman’s bold silhouette is further accentuated by a spacious windshield and straight rear glass, complemented by fender designs that incorporate functional elements such as headlamps and side storage, adding to Kia's uniqueness.
Kia pairs the Tasman with a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, achieving a maximum output of 281 horsepower and a peak torque of 43.0 kgf·m, along with a combined fuel efficiency of 8.6 km/L (based on the standard model with 17-inch wheels and without built-in cameras).
The Tasman also features towing capabilities of up to 3,500 kg (approximately 7,700 lbs) and a tow mode that differentiates shifting patterns based on the towing weight, optimizing ride comfort, shifting feel, and fuel efficiency. Additionally, Kia designed the Tasman’s air intake to be located at the upper side of the front fender, allowing it to traverse through 800 mm (31.5 inches) of water at a speed of 7 km/h (approximately 4.3 mph), ensuring stability even in challenging driving conditions.
The Tasman’s 4WD system includes terrain modes for sand, mud, and snow. With an AI feature that assesses the road surface and automatically selects the appropriate driving mode, the vehicle achieves optimal control. The X-Pro model, specialized for off-road driving, boasts a ground clearance of 252 mm (approximately 9.9 inches), which is 28 mm higher than the standard 4WD model, and features all-terrain tires to ensure stable driving in rough environments.
Notably, Kia has equipped the second row of the Tasman with the industry's first 'Sliding Linked Reclining Seats.' With optimized design, the vehicle offers best-in-class leg, head, and shoulder room to enhance passenger comfort. Additionally, the second row features a 'Wide Open Hinge' that allows doors to open up to 80 degrees and a 29L (approximately 7.7 gallons) large-capacity tray that emerges when the seats are lifted, improving storage convenience.
