The Hyundai Palisade, a flagship SUV that captured the hearts of domestic consumers with its unique body design and strong masculine appeal, unveiled its fully redesigned model on the 6th and has since made headlines by revealing key specifications and pricing on the 20th, starting pre-orders.
The all-new Palisade LX3, set to launch early next year, marks a significant update for Hyundai's flagship large SUV, which first debuted in November 2018. Known for its striking character and spacious interior, the Palisade has established itself as a leader in the domestic large SUV market, garnering attention for its enhanced luxury and grandeur.
Meanwhile, the upgraded luxury of the new Palisade LX3 can be felt just by looking at the newly advanced design. The bold and imposing presence, starting with the vertical daytime running lights (DRL), boldly reinterprets its identity, creating an overwhelming presence. The more spacious interior has been designed to feel cozy and meticulously crafted, resembling a home away from home.
In addition, the new Palisade maximizes space utilization based on its expanded vehicle dimensions. It features the first application of a next-generation hybrid system, which improves ride comfort and quietness, along with various advanced safety and convenience features, reflecting Hyundai's commitment to meeting market expectations with a premium SUV that boasts an overwhelming presence.
With the full redesign, the new Palisade has increased its length to 198.8 inches (5,060 mm), which is 2.6 inches (65 mm) longer than the previous generation, and its wheelbase has been extended to 116.9 inches (2,970 mm), providing ample interior space.
Additionally, Hyundai has thoughtfully arranged the interior components of the new Palisade, including seats, consoles, and dashboards, to cater to family lifestyles. They prioritized creating a comfortable and elegant atmosphere with soft materials and refined finishes. The island-type center console, which utilizes the space where the gear shift was relocated to the steering wheel, includes a wireless charger, a USB-C charging port capable of charging up to 100W, two large cup holders, storage space below, and a console box that opens from both sides.
Furthermore, the new nine-passenger model of the Palisade LX3 features a foldable multi-console that can also serve as a center seat, maximizing space utilization. It incorporates a center dual airbag that expands the passenger safety features to protect those seated in the middle. The second-row electric independent seats in the seven-passenger variant now include a relaxation comfort feature, ensuring maximum comfort for passengers, and can be upgraded to include a dynamic body care seat with a massage function.
The seats also feature a tilting walk-in function that allows for an additional 3.6 inches (92 mm) of space when tilted forward, making it easier for passengers to access the third row. This functionality remains operational even when a child seat is installed, significantly enhancing convenience for families who primarily use this premium flagship SUV.
The third row of the new Palisade enhances openness with a larger rear quarter glass. The third-row features a power 60:40 split seat that can slide forward and backward by up to 4.3 inches (110 mm), allowing passengers and cargo space to be adjusted as needed. With a rear overhang that has increased by 1.4 inches (35 mm) and a third-row seat that can move forward by up to 2.8 inches (70 mm) compared to the base model, the Palisade offers a generous cargo space of 21.7 cubic feet (615 liters), easily accommodating four golf bags and a Boston bag simultaneously.
Additionally, the new Palisade allows drivers to easily adjust the position and angle of the second and third-row seats via the driver’s display. The climate control system is accessible from the rear seats, ensuring that all passengers can comfortably control their environment.
Most importantly, Hyundai has responded to customer demand for eco-friendly vehicles by equipping the new Palisade with a 2.5 turbo hybrid powertrain, marking the first time this technology has been used in a Hyundai vehicle.
The new Palisade will also introduce a 2.5 turbo hybrid model, expected to deliver a combined output of 334 horsepower and exceptional efficiency, allowing for a driving range of over 621 miles (1,000 km) on a single tank. Additionally, it incorporates driving-specialized technologies like E-Ride, E-Handling, E-EHA, and e-DTVC to enhance ride comfort and driving performance.
The new Palisade also features a 1.65 kWh 300W high-voltage lithium-ion battery and includes functions like indoor V2L stay mode, allowing users to experience EV-specific convenience technologies previously available only in electric vehicles, making it a standout in the hybrid model category. The stay mode, newly applied to the Palisade, adjusts battery charging levels to maximize electric usage upon reaching the destination set in the navigation system, enabling functions like climate control and infotainment to operate during idle times, similar to an electric vehicle.
Instead of the previous 3.8 gasoline engine, Hyundai introduced a gasoline model equipped with a 2.5 turbo gasoline engine, enhancing economy and practicality. The Palisade 2.5 turbo gasoline model boasts a maximum output of 281 horsepower, a maximum torque of 31.2 lb-ft (43.0 kgf·m), and a combined fuel economy of 22.9 mpg (9.7 km/L). The increased maximum torque from the turbo system is expected to enhance initial acceleration responsiveness, providing drivers with a more dynamic driving experience.
Additionally, the new Palisade is the first Hyundai SUV model to feature preview electronic control suspension, which has received praise for enhancing the vehicle's value. Previously applied to Genesis SUV models, this high-end feature has finally made its way to the redesigned Palisade, boosting both luxury and marketability.
Preview electronic control suspension utilizes various sensors and navigation map information to assess road conditions and driving situations, predicting the appropriate damping force control for expected vehicle motion. This technology minimizes the vehicle's movements in all driving environments, ensuring a comfortable ride.
Moreover, Hyundai has enhanced the built-in cam 2 Plus feature in the new Palisade, allowing for recording while parked for up to four days. The rear monitor and digital center mirror (DCM) now include a camera cleaning function, enabling easy cleaning of rain or dirt that accumulates on the camera due to the SUV's structural characteristics.
As a family-friendly vehicle, Hyundai has also prioritized safety in the new Palisade. It includes advanced safety technologies such as forward collision avoidance assist (for cross-traffic, overtaking vehicles, side-approaching vehicles, and evasive steering assist), navigation-based smart cruise control (for safe zones, curved roads, and entry/exit ramps), highway driving assist 2, blind-spot collision warning (during driving), blind-spot collision avoidance assist (when moving forward), safe exit assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, remote smart parking assist, parking collision avoidance assist, side parking distance warning, advanced rear passenger alert, and steering wheel grip detection.
Meanwhile, Hyundai plans to deliver the new Palisade 2.5 turbo gasoline model to customers starting mid-next month, while the hybrid model will undergo certification procedures and is expected to be released in the first half of next year. The pricing for the new Palisade 2.5 turbo gasoline model is as follows: for the nine-passenger Exclusive model, it is approximately $3,300 (4,383,000 KRW); Prestige at about $3,800 (4,936,000 KRW); and Calligraphy at around $4,200 (5,586,000 KRW). For the seven-passenger Exclusive model, the price is approximately $3,700 (4,516,000 KRW); Prestige at about $4,200 (5,099,000 KRW); and Calligraphy at around $4,400 (5,794,000 KRW).
The Palisade 2.5 turbo hybrid model pricing is as follows: for the nine-passenger Exclusive model, approximately $3,800 (4,982,000 KRW); Prestige at around $4,200 (5,536,000 KRW); and Calligraphy at about $4,600 (6,186,000 KRW). For the seven-passenger Exclusive model, the price is approximately $3,900 (5,146,000 KRW); Prestige at around $4,300 (5,729,000 KRW); and Calligraphy at about $4,800 (6,424,000 KRW).
