Hello.
I'm Uniji, an automotive influencer.
As of the 8th, Kia has unveiled the design of its much-anticipated mid-size sedan, the K8 facelift (partial change). This new design diverges significantly from its geometric predecessor, catching the eye with a luxurious aesthetic that rivals Hyundai's flagship mid-size sedan, the Grandeur, and has generated considerable buzz.
The K8 facelift design, which has drawn significant attention even before its launch, features Kia's latest design language, "Opposite United," revealed through deep camouflage. It incorporates the well-known "Starmap Signature Lighting" in its daytime running lights (DRL) and a center positioning lamp that runs across the bumper, creating a more refined and upscale appearance compared to the previous model, evoking a resemblance to the Grandeur.
Despite showcasing a design that is practically a full redesign, the rear of the K8 maintains the original design elements to preserve its unique identity. The existing LED rear combination lamps have received a stylish update, harmonizing with the newly sophisticated front design. The car will also feature dynamic welcome/escort lights to enhance the driver's experience.
Meanwhile, Kia has announced a diverse powertrain lineup under the slogan, "Together in dazzling moments with luxurious design and new technology." Starting with the base 2.5 gasoline engine, the lineup includes a 3.5 gasoline engine, a turbo hybrid based on a 1.6 gasoline turbo engine, and a 3.5 LPG option, catering to a variety of customer needs.
Notably, the Kia K8 turbo hybrid model is expected to attract significant demand. The existing K8 hybrid vehicle features a 1.6 gasoline turbo engine with a maximum output of 180 horsepower and a torque of 27.0 kgf·m, combined with a drive motor producing 44.2 kW and 264 Nm of torque, resulting in a total output of 280 horsepower and a torque of 35.7 kgf·m. With the K8 facelift, Kia introduces a more powerful turbo hybrid that maintains the existing 1.6 gasoline turbo engine specifications while slightly enhancing the motor's maximum output to 47.7 kW, providing even greater performance.
The K8 facelift also offers a more distinctive appeal through its Signature Black edition, which showcases a unique black color scheme. Noteworthy features include exclusive 19-inch and 20-inch black wheels, each tailored for hybrid and gasoline variants, allowing customers to enjoy the allure of black while maintaining a cohesive design.
The new K8 offers a range of exterior colors, starting with the main color, Sunset Beige, and including Snow White Pearl, Ivory Silver, Moonscape Matte Gray, Interstellar Gray, and Aurora Black Pearl, catering to various customer preferences. The interior colors will feature options like Black One-tone, Round Brown Two-tone, Neutral Beige Two-tone, and Deep Sea Navy Two-tone, showcasing a modern design that emphasizes sophistication and luxury, rivaling the Grandeur in its interior aesthetics.
The K8 facelift’s interior design presents a more attractive and modern look, featuring a new steering wheel design and incorporating Hyundai Motor Group's latest infotainment system, ccNC, along with fingerprint recognition, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The enhancements include improved ambient lighting, a dual-door center console, and a refined center console design, resulting in a more sophisticated and luxurious interior.
Meanwhile, the pricing for the K8 facelift has drawn attention, starting at approximately 3,736,000 KRW (about $2,800 USD) for the 2.5 gasoline model, reflecting an increase of about 400,000 KRW (around $300 USD) compared to the previous model. The new 2.5 gasoline Signature Black starts at 4,550,000 KRW (about $3,400 USD).
The pricing for the 3.5 gasoline model starts at 4,048,000 KRW (about $3,000 USD), while the K8 turbo hybrid begins at 4,372,000 KRW (around $3,200 USD). Since these prices do not yet reflect potential eco-friendly vehicle tax benefits, further price reductions may occur. The K8 turbo hybrid Signature Black starts at 5,167,000 KRW (about $3,900 USD), suggesting that fully loaded options could push the price into the mid-$40,000 range.
Unlike Hyundai's Grandeur, which minimized price increases through model year changes, Kia appears to be embracing a new challenge by highlighting the refined and luxurious changes in the new K8 to establish its value. However, the price difference between the two vehicles remains significant, with the Grandeur being slightly more expensive, leading to greater consumer consideration.
