The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has surpassed sales of the popular sedans
Sonata and Grandeur just four months after its launch.
According to Hyundai's sales report released on the 1st, the Ioniq 6 sold 3,895 units, outpacing the Sonata (3,739 units) and
the Grandeur (3,754 units).
Notably, the Ioniq 6 recorded 37,446 contracts on its first day, and just four months after its official sales began, it has already surpassed cumulative sales of 10,000 units, showcasing its explosive
popularity.
Ahead of the official launch of the Ioniq 6, the First Edition models sold out on the first day during pre-sales in Germany, the UK, France, Norway, and the Netherlands.
This marked a record of complete sell-out.
Ulrich Mehaou, Vice President of Sales and Service at Hyundai Europe, stated, "The high interest and demand for the Ioniq 6 First Edition reflect Hyundai's leadership in clean mobility," adding, "With its aerodynamic design, long driving range, and enhanced customer experience through its interior, the Ioniq 6 redefines what an electric vehicle can be."
The Ioniq 6 is the second dedicated electric vehicle built on Hyundai Motor Group's E-GMP platform. It features a streamlined silhouette, rear spoiler, exterior active air flaps, wheel air curtains, wheel gap reducers, and optimized underbody shapes, achieving an impressive drag coefficient of 0.21 cd, the lowest among Hyundai vehicles.
The rear-mounted motor delivers a maximum output of 168 kW and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Depending on the trim, customers can opt for an additional 74 kW front motor for all-wheel drive. Choosing the all-wheel drive option provides a maximum output of 239 kW and torque of 605 Nm, achieving 0 to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds.
The Ioniq 6 comes equipped with a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a driving range of 524 km on a single charge with 18-inch wheels and standard 2WD, the longest among domestic electric vehicles.
Going forward, Hyundai plans to aggressively target the European electric vehicle market with the Ioniq 6, following the Ioniq 5. Next year, the company aims to sell over 60,000 units of the Ioniq 6 as part of its global electric vehicle sales target of 300,000 units.
