Hello, I'm Double View, an automotive influencer.
Last weekend, I had the chance to test drive the BMW X4 20i, a mid-size SUV coupe model,
and I was once again impressed by its attractive design and satisfying driving experience.
My wife and I had been considering purchasing the BMW X4, but news of its discontinuation has now removed it from our list.
Currently, it is no longer available for purchase.
Today, I will share the reasons behind the BMW X4's discontinuation and its future outlook.
How can the BMW X4 be so popular and still face discontinuation? What are the reasons?
The BMW X4 launched a facelift model alongside the X3 in 2021.
However, when BMW announced the full change for the X3 last year, we also learned about the X4's discontinuation.
This news came as a surprise.
As the number of electric models increased, BMW needed to reduce the number of certain models, and some models faced discontinuation due to low sales.
There are also models that will be integrated and phased out.
The BMW X4, a mid-size SUV coupe, positioned itself between the compact X2 and the larger X6.
However, with the recent release of an enlarged BMW X2 in the first half of last year,
the X4's position as a mid-size SUV has been effectively replaced.
As new models continue to increase in size, the market has witnessed the emergence of ambiguous positions,
and one such model is the BMW X4, which never struggled with sales.
I never imagined it would face discontinuation.
Test Drive of the BMW X4 20i - Is it Still Worth It?
The BMW X4 20i features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine,
delivering a robust performance with a maximum output of 184 horsepower and a peak torque of 29.6 kgf·m.
BMW's SUV lineup impresses with powerful engine performance, easily surpassing competitors like Mercedes-Benz.
Even as someone who doesn't typically enjoy high-speed driving, I found its appeal irresistible.
I drove the Luxury design model, but I personally feel that the sporty M Sport Package model, while a bit more expensive, truly justifies its price.
The steering wheel design alone makes it clear why the MSP trim sells so well.
Recently released vehicles often feature button or dial-style gear knobs, but the 2021 BMW X4 feels quite analog in comparison.
The interior design feels somewhat outdated compared to the trendier interior of the New X3.
While the physical buttons allow for intuitive menu selection and adjustment, I felt disappointed given that the X4 has always been known for its stylish design.
Despite this, the rear design of the coupe SUV remains attractive, and the gentle slope from the B-pillar reveals why the BMW X4 has been beloved for so long.
Now, if you want to purchase a BMW coupe SUV, your options are limited to the X2 or X6.
I wonder if these two models can fill the gap left by the discontinuation of the X4.
In contrast, the BMW X4 feels familiar and friendly, requiring no adjustment, and I highly recommend it to those looking for an affordable mid-size SUV.
The exact discontinuation date for the BMW X4 remains unclear, but like the 6GT, it may stay on the market for a while longer. It's wise to purchase during a period of high discounts.
Today, I shared the reasons for the BMW X4's discontinuation, potential replacement models, and my impressions from the test drive.
Although it's bittersweet to say goodbye to this model,
the discontinuation date has yet to be finalized, so I encourage you to test drive it and consider your options before making a final decision.
