Last weekend, while visiting the Hanam Starfield exhibition center, I happened to pass by the Polestar showroom
and got to see the newly launched Polestar 4.
Today, I will cover the Ministry of Environment's driving range certification results, along with details on the 2024 Polestar 4's battery and subsidy information.
Recently, concerns about electric vehicle fires have emerged, leading to a decline in interest in electric cars due to the inconvenience of charging.
It's true that many people, including myself, have hesitated to consider buying an electric vehicle.
I found myself uninterested in the Polestar 4, despite its recent launch.
However, the actual design exceeded my expectations,
and its mid-size SUV format made me think it would be perfect for golf trips or family outings, prompting me to explore it further.
I almost purchased a Polestar 2 with my wife, but I lost interest when the beige seat color was discontinued.
I remember feeling disappointed at that time.
If the beige seat color had remained available in the initial models,
I might have been a proud owner of a Polestar 2 by now.
One reason I lost interest in the Polestar 2 was its ambiguous space.
When I set the front seats comfortably, the second row lacked enough space for adults,
making it difficult for family trips, so I felt no need to choose it.
However, the 2024 Polestar 4 model offers ample interior space, making it great for traveling with family,
and its long driving range meets most of our needs as a couple.

The 2024 Polestar 4 model will begin customer deliveries next month, but the Ministry of Environment has already completed the driving range certification.
According to the results, the Polestar 4 long-range single motor model can drive up to 511 km on a full charge (based on standard temperature and mixed driving conditions).
In urban settings, it can achieve 530 km, while on highways, it reaches 488 km, marking the longest range among electric SUVs currently sold in Korea.
The 2024 Polestar 2 long-range single motor can reportedly drive up to 620 km according to European WLTP certification, but given the stringent standards of the Korean Ministry of Environment, you can expect a mid-range figure of about 500 km in Korea.
The battery manufacturer is CATL, and the battery capacity stands at 100 kWh.
Here are the specifications for the Polestar 4 long-range single motor:

For reference, the dual motor's maximum power is 551.5 ps, with a maximum torque of 69.9 kg.m.
The overwhelming power results in a 0-60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds, which should appeal to speed enthusiasts.
The price for the long-range single motor model is approximately 6,690,000 KRW (around 5,055 USD), while the long-range dual motor is priced at 7,190,000 KRW (around 5,351 USD).
Now, let's take a look at the simulated estimate for the 2024 Polestar 4 long-range single motor.
Vehicle price: 6,690,000 KRW (around 5,055 USD)
Acquisition tax: 2,860,000 KRW (around 2,130 USD)Bond discount: 320,000 KRW (around 240 USD) (based on Seoul)
=> Estimated actual purchase price: 7,012,000 KRW (around 5,241 USD) (including additional costs)
Excluding the electric vehicle subsidy, you can determine the actual purchase price.
Depending on your location, you might receive subsidies of up to 7,000,000 KRW (around 5,200 USD).
Considering that the estimated cost for the long-range single motor was around 7,000,000 KRW (around 5,241 USD), after factoring in the electric vehicle subsidy, you can expect an actual purchase price ranging from 6,300,000 KRW (around 4,680 USD) to 6,650,000 KRW (around 4,930 USD).
Once the electric vehicle subsidy is finalized, I will share it again.
The trunk capacity of the 2024 Polestar 4 is 526 L, and when folding down the second row, it can be expanded to a maximum of 1,536 L.
The second row can be folded in a 6:4 ratio, as shown in the picture below.

In the past, the beige seat color was released but was replaced by gray due to concerns about losing Volvo customers.
This consistent policy seems to have resulted in a seat color that fits the Polestar brand well.
The reason this model is gaining attention is its reasonable price.
I previously shared the prices for the long-range single motor (6,690,000 KRW, around 5,055 USD) and dual motor (7,190,000 KRW, around 5,351 USD) models.
Globally, it is said to have been released at the lowest price in South Korea.
Having seen the car in person and even sat in the second row, I feel there is no reason not to buy it at this price.
We should watch how effectively it can overcome electric vehicle phobia with such a reasonable price.
