In February 2020, Mercedes-Benz launched the A-Class sedan and the second-generation GLA model.
The A-Class, previously available only in a hatchback style, now expands its lineup with the A220 and A250 sedan models.
I had the opportunity to test drive the A220 model, the youngest member of the A-Class sedan lineup.
It comes in a striking Night Black color and features a 1,991 cc four-cylinder gasoline engine.
The engine delivers a maximum output of 190 horsepower and a peak torque of 30.6 lb-ft, with a top speed of 147 mph and a 0-60 time of just 7.0 seconds.
Despite its compact size, the A220 sedan offers surprisingly strong performance.
What do you think of the design from the side? Although it was released in a sedan style, its smooth lines create an elegant look.
The character line on the side enhances its volume and adds a distinctive flair to the design.
I believe this design will surely attract the attention of young drivers in their 20s and 30s, who are the main target audience for the A-Class sedan.
The front design of the A220 sedan features a chrome single louvre and black pins in the radiator grille, giving it a sporty feel.
In contrast, the CLA model emphasizes a luxurious design with silver pins in the radiator grille, resembling stars in the night sky.
Personally, I found the rear design of the A220 sedan to be the most impressive, as it stands out with its voluminous shape and refined lines.
This design captures attention and differentiates it from traditional sedans.
The dynamic design of the tail lamps enhances the overall appearance of the A220 sedan.
Upon closer inspection, the tail lamps feature a unique 3D design that adds to its charm. This is the essence of Mercedes-Benz...
The attention to detail in the sedan's rear design is impressive, showcasing various design elements.
The robust rear end of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan is truly appealing.
Initially, many perceived the A-Class as a compact model suited for entry-level professionals or singles.
However, the 2020 A-Class sedan offers ample trunk space, making it versatile for various uses.
The biggest advantage of the A-Class transitioning from a hatchback to a sedan is this spaciousness.
The 2020 A220 sedan features an especially attractive interior.
The air vent design, characteristic of Mercedes-Benz, captures attention immediately.
Three air vents sit in the center, and their beautiful design makes you want to touch them without even realizing it.
The combination of silver air vents surrounded by black tones looks great, and the volume is just right.
If I, someone who usually finds things a bit bland, feel this way, just imagine how much emotional female drivers will love it! Haha.
What do you think of the steering wheel design? It seems impossible not to fall in love with it, regardless of age or gender.
The 2020 A-Class features a black steering wheel, while the CLA has a silver chrome finish that adds a touch of luxury.
However, we must acknowledge the price difference: the A220 sedan starts at about $33,600 USD, while the CLA is priced around $48,000 USD.
The latest MBUX infotainment system from Mercedes-Benz provides comfort to drivers.
Although the black A220 sedan design may seem a bit plain, the seat colors and designs are truly beautiful.
The interior seats feature ARTRICO man-made leather in indigo blue and black.
If you look closely at the seats, you can see that they have a blue base with black color applied only to the center section.
This part is plush and provides stable support, allowing for less fatigue during long drives.
You can feel Mercedes-Benz's attention to detail throughout the A220's interior.
There is a handle next to the door handle that you can grasp, especially useful for passengers in the front and back seats.
This adds a sense of security while using the vehicle.
The A220 also features power seat controls with three memory settings available.
The ventilated seats in this sedan, priced in the $30,000 range, are quite attractive, don’t you think? Haha.
The dimensions of the 2020 A-Class sedan are 178.7 inches in length, 107.5 inches in wheelbase, 70.7 inches in width, and 57.1 inches in height.
Compared to the hatchback style, its length is 5.1 inches longer, resulting in unexpectedly good space utilization.
With 190 horsepower and 30.6 lb-ft of torque, the A220 sedan offers satisfying pulling power.
I felt like I could really push the A-Class sedan during my test drive.
While it’s compact, this model packs a punch.
The 2020 A220 sedan is a model I would recommend to families as well, unlike the hatchback version.
I enjoy playing golf with my wife as a hobby, and with this amount of space, I think the A220 would be a great choice for golf outings.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan broadens the options for choosing a sedan from the brand.
Today, I shared my first impressions and brief driving review of the A220 sedan, and I plan to conduct a longer test drive in the next installment. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments.
