Last weekend, I enjoyed a date in downtown Seoul driving the Volkswagen Golf.
The Golf has been a beloved compact hatchback since its first-generation model launched in 1974, and now it has reached its eighth generation.
This car has captured hearts for fifty years.
While the price is higher compared to domestic compact models,
the Golf offers an attractive daily driving style in the city and the premium experience of a German import, making it very popular among young owners who value style.
They enjoy both the aesthetics and the driving experience.
I know three Golf owners personally,
and they all chose it as their first car after starting their careers.
I asked the owners why they chose the Golf, and they mentioned that it’s a hatchback model suitable for both solo living and couple life.

Having previously tested the Golf GTI gasoline 2.0 model, I initially had low expectations for the 2.0 TDI.
The driving experience exceeded my expectations.
For those who are conscious of others' gaze, I recommend the Volkswagen Golf, which, while slightly higher in price compared to domestic compact sedans, allows you to experience the premium of a German import without sacrificing value.
It was a short two-night, three-day test drive, but I managed to drive over 200 km on the highway to Hoengseong in Gangwon Province.
I felt satisfied with the driving performance and stable cornering that exceeded my expectations.
Nonetheless, the Golf's charm shone brighter in the city.
Its compact size made it easy to move and park, and its stylish appeal stood out even more.
