Revving Up Luxury: A First Look at the New BMW 7 Series

Last weekend, I visited the largest BMW Auto World showroom in Suwon to test drive the fully redesigned BMW 7 Series.

This model has received strong praise, so much so that it has almost erased memories of its predecessor.

Today, I will share a brief review of the test drive along with information about current discounts and stock availability.

The new 7 Series comes in three powertrains: the gasoline 740i, the diesel 740d, and the plug-in hybrid 750e.

It also features two design options, DSP and MSP.

Some have asked why there is no long-body model, but the new 740i is actually longer than the previous 740Li model.

The new model measures 5,390mm in length, which is 130mm longer than its predecessor's length of 5,260mm.

In conclusion, while the 'L' designation has disappeared, you can understand that the new model is indeed a longer variant.

The base launch price has seen a slight increase, reflecting the long-body model's pricing.

Some may have preferred a more affordable, owner-driven version of the 7 Series, leading to some disappointment regarding the pricing.

Personally, I considered the short-body model for my wife and me, as we do not have children.

However, it seems that the sales figures are slightly sluggish despite the positive reviews regarding the design and performance, as the demand for such models is not being met.

For those contemplating the purchase of a long-body model, the new fully redesigned 7 Series offers the utmost satisfaction as a flagship model.

Individual preferences regarding design may vary, but the exterior and interior design are undeniably luxurious, enough to overshadow its competitor, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

If you don't just think of cars as "Mercedes," seeing and test-driving both models will likely lead you to favor the 7 Series even more.

The exterior color of the model in the photos, Brooklyn Gray, showcases a unique aesthetic.

In addition to this, colors such as Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Oxide Gray, Sophisto Gray, and Sparkling Copper Gray have been introduced, focusing on more subdued tones rather than flashy ones.

The interior features Merino leather, and the model I drove had black multifunction seats.

Other options include mocha, Amarone, and Tartufo multifunction seats.

The front design is striking, while the rear design feels relatively more conventional.

The new BMW 7 Series also offers a two-tone model, which could be an exciting challenge for those wanting a unique vehicle, regardless of the delivery time and price.

Now, let’s take a look at the specifications of the 740i and 740d models, which are primarily sold.

While the diesel model offers better fuel economy, many buyers seem to prefer the gasoline model for its safety against future environmental regulations.

The supply of diesel vehicles is also limited due to European quotas.

Now, let’s look at the pricing information for the BMW 7 Series.

The 740d DPE is priced at approximately $118,000 USD, while the 740d MSP is around $119,000 USD.

The 740i DPE starts at about $123,000 USD, and the 740i MSP is priced at roughly $124,000 USD.

Diesel models tend to be relatively more affordable.

As mentioned earlier, those who anticipated the new 7 Series may have been turned off by the size and price of the short-body model, prompting them to look at other brands.

I find myself in the same position.

I plan to make a final decision after seeing the upcoming fully redesigned 5 Series, but it is a bit disappointing to see fewer choices in the automotive market following the discontinuation of the 6 Series.

Despite the high interest rates and economic downturn leading to a decrease in sales, the new 7 Series undeniably stands out as an exceptional flagship luxury sedan.

Many companies use the S-Class as their executive vehicle, but since the launch of the new model, the 7 Series seems to be gaining popularity over the S-Class.

This model currently has a substantial inventory ready for immediate delivery.

Due to high inventory levels across all brands as a result of the high interest rates and economic downturn, significant discount promotions are underway.

This month, while the discounts have slightly decreased at the beginning of the month, they may exceed last month's levels by the end of the month.
