The Kia K8 stands as a representative model of domestic mid-size sedans, alongside the newly released Hyundai Grandeur.
Today, I will share my firsthand experience from a test drive at a nearby Kia dealership, along with specifications, delivery times, model comparisons, and a mock estimate based on the 5% tax exemption effective from July.

2023 K8 Hybrid Information
I have been a Kia owner for nearly a decade now.
Since I work in domestic sales, I tend to choose domestic cars over imports. As I focused on value for money, I found myself naturally leaning toward Kia models.
I plan to sell my K5, which I have driven for ten years, by the end of the year. As I consider a step-up upgrade, the Kia K8 Hybrid has emerged as my top choice.
Initially, the K8's bold design sparked mixed opinions upon its release. However, after seeing it repeatedly and even test-driving it, I have grown accustomed to it.
It has become a common sight on the streets.
In June, Kia sold 4,469 K8 units, ranking 8th overall in domestic car sales.
The cumulative sales from January to June reached 25,155 units.
The Grandeur secured the top spot with 62,970 units sold in the first half of the year. If this trend continues, it is likely to surpass 100,000 units by the end of the year.
Specifications and Delivery Information
Let’s share the specifications and model comparison information for both vehicles.

Although the wheelbase is the same, the Grandeur is slightly larger in overall length, width, and height.
While the difference isn't significant, the Grandeur's larger front kidney grille design gives it a more imposing appearance.
In terms of combined fuel efficiency, the lighter K8 HEV model performs slightly better.
Feedback from acquaintances who own the vehicle indicates that even if the K8's price is high, the savings on annual fuel costs for the HEV model make it feel like money is accumulating.
The K8 HEV also boasts ample interior space and luxurious materials, earning owner satisfaction ratings as high as 9.5 out of 10, according to some reviews.
As a salesperson who drives about 15,534 miles (25,000 km) annually, I cannot overlook fuel efficiency. I find that purchasing the HEV model definitely enhances my financial comfort.
The current delivery times for the 2023 K8 are as follows based on the powertrain:
Compared to just a month ago, delivery times have decreased by one month for each powertrain.
June marked the last month of the 3.5% tax exemption, leading many to take delivery of their vehicles for tax savings.
However, as delivery times are decreasing across all automotive brands, it seems likely that sales will dip slightly in the third quarter.
Conversely, the U.S. Federal Reserve has announced two interest rate hikes for the second half of 2023, which may lead to increased demand for vehicle purchases at relatively lower interest rates.
I have various reasons for considering the K8 Hybrid model.
First, the high economic satisfaction from its excellent fuel efficiency is appealing. Additionally, the spacious interior and the use of premium leather materials provide comfort during travel.
Compared to the K9, the K8 offers a younger and more sophisticated vibe, attracting significant interest from potential owners in their 40s.
The HEV model comes in four trims, and based on the new 5% tax exemption effective July 1, here are the vehicle prices:
Noble: 4,088,000 KRW (approximately 3,000 USD)
Signature: 4,449,000 KRW (approximately 3,300 USD)
Signature Special: 4,592,000 KRW (approximately 3,400 USD)
I checked the mock estimate for the Signature model, which I am considering purchasing.
Vehicle Price: 4,449,000 KRW (approximately 3,300 USD) (based on 5% tax exemption)
Acquisition Tax: 2,430,000 KRW (approximately 1,800 USD)
Bond Discount: 0 KRW (HEV exemption)
The model in the photo is the Hybrid 1.6 Signature model.
The exterior color is Aurora Black Pearl, and the interior seats are black, featuring additional options like Drive Wise, Comfort, and HUD+.
The seat colors are available in various options. Many women around me prefer the basic color seats that create a bright interior atmosphere.
Mid-size sedans prioritize passenger comfort in the second row. Sitting in one, you can truly feel the comfort of domestic mid-size models.
I once took a round trip from Bundang to the Incheon Paradise Hotel for a test drive. The seats were comfortable, and the HEV's quietness led to high satisfaction among passengers.
Given this high level of satisfaction from personal experience, I often compare the K8 to the newly released Grandeur when considering a mid-size sedan for family trips.
As previously mentioned, since there isn’t a significant difference between the models, personal preferences regarding exterior design will likely play a substantial role in the decision-making process.
Signature 2WD model with tax exemption reflected
Gasoline Turbo 1.6 HEV: 4,592,000 KRW (approximately 3,400 USD)
Gasoline 2.5: 3,961,000 KRW (approximately 2,900 USD)
Gasoline 3.5: 4,273,000 KRW (approximately 3,200 USD)
The same applies to the new Grandeur, but when comparing with all desired options included, the K8 often comes out as the more affordable choice.
When comparing fully equipped models, it is evident that the Grandeur is not necessarily cheaper.
The 2023 K8 Hybrid model is a popular choice for corporate fleets, and individual business owners often use it for work-related purposes.
