I recently had the opportunity to test drive the popular Volvo S60 B5 Inscription model, which has been enjoying great popularity in the sunny weather of May.
The Volvo S60 B5 Inscription model is in such high demand that customers often have to wait over six months to get one.
The price of the Inscription model I drove is 54.1 million won (approximately $40,500 USD), while the Momentum model costs 48.1 million won (around $36,000 USD).
Compared to competitors in the same class, it offers a good value for the price.
During this test drive, I found many attractive features that made me want to become a Volvo S60 owner.
I will share my honest impressions of what I liked and what I found disappointing.
Before diving into the detailed review, I want to share my experience from the 2019 Volvo launch event for those interested in the various design aspects of the S60.
The front grille design leaves a strong impression, making it easy to recognize the Volvo model from a distance.
The headlights, known as Thor's Hammer, also embody Volvo's design identity, and they now feel both familiar and welcoming.
The rear features C-shaped tail lights that enhance the vehicle's overall appearance.
This design, combined with the appropriate volume and Volvo lettering, appeals to a wide audience, regardless of age or gender.
Volvo has attracted public attention through celebrity marketing and has emerged as a symbol of safety, especially after incidents where drivers and passengers returned home safely.
The width is 1,850 mm (about 72.8 inches),
The height is 1,430 mm (roughly 56.3 inches),
The wheelbase is 2,872 mm (around 113.1 inches).
Competitive models in the import car market include the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series.
The engine is a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder single turbo T5 engine. The displacement is 1,969 cc (approximately 120.1 cubic inches).
The 0 to 60 mph time is 6.7 seconds.
The Volvo S60 B5 features a 48V mild hybrid system.
This system maintains similar output and torque compared to the existing T5 model, while reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency, making it both environmentally friendly and economical.
The combined fuel efficiency is 11.6 km/L (approximately 27.3 mpg), which is an improvement of 0.8 km/L over the previous T5 model.
The photo below shows that both the driver and passenger can check if their seatbelts are fastened, prompting a reminder before starting.
Of course, the system does not alert for unoccupied seats (like the second row).
On that day, the adaptive cruise control feature made long-distance travel comfortable.
I adjusted the distance from the car in front during the test drive, and the quick response of the accelerator and brake during congested areas made it easy to use continuously.
The Pilot Assist feature, which includes lane-keeping assistance, road departure prevention, distance alerts, and driver alert control, prioritizes the driver's safety.
When I think of the word "safety," Volvo is the first brand that comes to mind.
Volvo creates an emotional interior using Scandinavian materials.
My wife and I love Volvo for its interior design and top-notch sound system.
You can experience different emotions depending on the direction and angle of the light.
In dark settings, they appear dark brown, while in bright environments, they take on a beige hue.
The Volvo S60 B5 Inscription model features a panoramic sunroof that provides an excellent sense of openness.
On sunny days like these, a panoramic sunroof is essential for a refreshing drive.
I listened to music throughout the drive, and the rich sound of the Bowers & Wilkins sound system delighted my ears.
Volvo has established its design identity with a vertical monitor and vertical air vent design that distinguishes it from other brands.
I previously mentioned Volvo's grille design as part of its unique design identity, and this charm extends beyond just the grille to the vehicle's overall details.
I recognize it as the most emotionally appealing model in its class. At the very least, you would need a convertible model with a retractable roof to compete, but such models would be significantly more expensive than the S60, making it impractical.
So, what were some disappointing aspects of the Volvo S60?
This might be more pronounced for male drivers, but I felt that the dynamic aspects of driving were not very pronounced.
Compared to other imported models with similar specifications, it felt slightly bland.
Nonetheless, all Volvo models enjoy such immense popularity that they often have long waiting periods.
As a result, more people are buying display models to receive their vehicles sooner, and various complaints are surfacing.
Therefore, it's important to consult with a reliable dealer when purchasing a Volvo.
I hope everyone pays attention to this aspect.
I will share my firsthand experience with you.

The aerodynamic exterior design and the lack of supportive seat design for high-speed driving contributed to this feeling.
